As was the case with the previous vintage, we again increased the percentage of Palomino and Clairette in this blend, for even more freshness and primary fruit flavours. The Roussanne component was excluded for the first time, as we felt it was too rich; and we wanted to reduce the alcohol level and have an even more refined and elegant version with earlier drinkability.
We were surprised to observe that both the Palomino and Clairette impart a very sophisticated minerality to the final blend. This wine has a linear edge that cuts like a sushi knife!
Technical Notes - Sequillo White 2011.pdf
For the 2010 vintage we included Palomino & Clairette in the blend. The main reason for this is to have a higher level of freshness due to the natural high acidity that both varietals have as a trademark; and also the inclusion of more primary fresh fruit flavours. The result is that the 2010 Sequillo White is a much more refined and elegant version and has an increased earlier drinkability as well as a beautiful fresh finish. The wine still maintains the ripe tropical fruit & ripeness of the Chenin Blanc and Grenache Blanc components. We are extremely happy with this vintage. Enjoy!
The 2010 Swartland vintage promised to be a great one from the outset. We focused on picking the vineyards before the extreme heat waves set in and also continued with minimum extraction throughout fermentation. The key characteristics of the 2010 vintage are very clear spicy and herbal flavours and a fresh, red fruit aroma. Compared to the two previous vintages, the palate is slightly denser and promises an even better ageing capacity. Sophistication meets approachability here and this wine is just a more complete picture: more detail; more depth.
Technical Notes - Sequillo Red 2010.pdf
The 2009 vintage for the red blend is the coming together of many things. The aromatic flavours of the 2009 is more precise and pure and the lifted fruit and spicy characters seem to be more perfectly woven than in any of the previous vintages. The inclusion of Cinsault has benefitted the wine in terms of fruit purity and the inclusion of the Carignan has lifted the acidity and overall sense of freshness on the palate finish. Great reflection on the essential character that has been defining the Swartland in recent years.
Not to be missed!
